The Bees @ Jaya One

Churros with dolce le leche - RM9.00

It was a great sunny Thaipusam day! Totally decided to spent sometime under the sun while i can! Maybe have some late lunch and gossip with my labeled "BFF". She was lazying on bed when i called. Told her to get ready for more gossips...While i getting ready, i remembered the night before my sis told me, there's this place she went to with many varieties of ice cream. And asked me to check it out, called The Bees Burger in Jaya One.

Once i reach the place, i was walking around the restaurant in search of the ice cream freezer. I saw a waitress was arranging the ice cream cups as i walk towards it. She ask me what flavor of ice cream i wanted. I was puzzled as i wanted all of them. Hehe! So i told her, give me one minute and i will come back once i have decided.

And finally, i have decided to take...

I like both flavors.

The guinness ice cream does have the pinch of bitterness and yet still taste sweet. Im not a fan of guinness so, maybe next time i shall ask a guinness drinker what difference does it make having guinness in a form of solid and liquid.

Guinness ice cream - RM8.80
I really like this tea tarik. It really feels malaysian. Hehe! It not too sweet neither do they have the after taste bitterness. Its a good try! I will come back for other flavors soon. Hehe!

Teh tarik ice cream - RM6.80

Jade Pot @ Old Klang Road

It has been a long time since i have taken my mom and dad out for dinner. So, my sis and i had planned to venture around Old Klang Road and found this place called "Jade Pot". Its a building on its' own. When we enter the restaurant, there are many decoration enhancing the festival of CNY which is around the corner. Hehe! more ang pow! :P

table setting

We ordered the steamboat set B (RM89.80) for 4 person. I really like the service here as they are all sufficient and fast. There were 2-3 waiter assisting my table.  Maybe there were not many diners yet.  There weren't a lot of people dining but the crowd came late around 8pm plus. I can say, you do not have to pay for extra to refill your soup, it's included with service. :)

Sauce - bean curd, chicken rice chillies, green chillies, oily dry chillies

tauhu with salted fish & foo chuk (set)

Australian beef - RM 9.40

pork slice (set)
fried har kau (set)

complimentary dessert
There are many others we ordered but i was too busy enjoying myself. Hehe! Like the Salted Egg Prawn Ball (RM8.80), Siew Mai (RM8.80), Brinjal (RM4.50), Fish Bladder (RM9.00), Grouper Fish (RM7.50), Fried Beancurd (RM4.00) and etc.

I can say we over-ordered but we managed to clear our bowls empty. Hehe!

Betty's Midwest Kitchen @ Aman Suria, Damansara

I had made an appointment to meet up with a friend who i used to work with and i can't decide where is good to eat. And i remembered that a friend told me to try this restaurant called "Betty's Midwest Kitchen". I googled and found the place, immediately called my friend to meet up for lunch. It wasn't difficult to find since it is located at the main road in between tropicana and LDP.

As i entered the restaurant, it was packed but i was fortunate that there is still a table for 2 left. So, quickly i sat and the menu was served immediately. Wow! Service = impressive! :)

Dog food - RM9.00

First i ordered dog food for starters. I know u be wondering why dog food? and why is it called dog food? Haha! Well, i should ask the boss next time. :) This dog food dish is filled with chips with a sauce (looks like mushroom sauce, and taste similar to it too.) I like the cheese on top of it. :)

Country Fried Chicken - RM15.00

Next was the Country Fried Chicken. :) i LOVE fried chicken. And once i saw it in the menu, i quickly place my order on it. I wanted to try how different could it be, if compared to our famous K*C. Hehe!

I did not regret at all! It was good. It has this lemony after taste to it, which it's not as simple as normal fried chicken. What i didn't like about the dish was probably it was served with green peas! I don't like green peas, neither did my friend. Haha! So, we just finish the chicken and mash potato.

Pork Belly - RM27.50
I was expecting much from this dish as it was highly recommended by my friend who came before. I was expecting grilled but it came different. The pork belly tasted like satay meat and the fat is still soft. The sauce is nice but maybe i will try other dishes next time round. :)

I will come again, probably will try something new to the menu then. :)

Penang Lorbak @ Penang Road, Penang

When i reached penang, i came to this restaurant. Unfortunately, all the stalls in this restaurant was closed. The lady boss told me to come again before 3pm, so i told her i will come earlier the next day. As i was told that penang people likes fried food. And I came once again, saw the lady boss and she was happy and chatty. Hehe!! Quickly i ordered this lorbak.

There's sotong, prawns, tofu, fu chuk, soft shell crab and all fried!!! I really like the sauces, it adds more flavor. I did take away some for home, hoping i can eat while driving.

Lorbak @ RM7.00

poh piah crabmeat, oyster porridge & apom balik @ Jalan Mount Erskine, Penang

In penang, some hotels do not cater morning breakfast. Most probably the food around the hotel would taste better. :) Fortunately, my hotel does serve breakfast. I was just lazying on my bed wondering if i could extend my holiday. z z z z....

Ok! I'm hungry for food already. I did had some breakfast from the hotel, as i was thinking, outside would serve better. So i drove out and start my journey of food. I heard about the poh piah crabmeat and wanting to try it. Seriously i lost my way many times. But finally with my wits, i decided to just stop, park and look. And i found the place. This is the hawker stalls located just in front of the residents facing the main road of Jalan Mount Erskine.

Its difficult to find a parking spot but i got a shaded empty parking spot. Heheh!! The first stall i spotted was the "ah pong balik" stall, the customers comes non stop and they are so friendly. Both husband and wife smiling all the way. Then i was thinking lets try their apom balik. They have two type, one is the crispy skin with peanuts and the other is soft skin with banana filling. I bought some to eat while trying others. You can see the peanut filling. yum yum!

Apom & cucur udang RM1.20

Next i saw a stall with words i do not understand, but i saw people around the stall eating porridge. So i ordered one bowl to try, what is so special with the porridge.(i wondered?) Once the porridge came, the taste is just nice. The colour of the porridge is brown amd its not salty. The porridge tasted warm and not too gluey. Nice!

Oyster porridge - RM3.00
And then the poh piah stall is located at the back. I tried communicating with the uncle, as i told him i wanted 1 poh piah (actually i wanted one plate) He mumbled and pointed at his pot and giving me the sign as if he's not open yet to sell. So, i told him that i will wait. I waited about 15 minutes and thinking he should be ready by now. So i went back to the stall, i saw him wrapping the poh piah. So i told him that i wanted to order. He completely gave me the wave as if he is not interested. I stood there angrily as i wonder how come everybody is allowed to order except me? Something not right! I saw as two of his customers bought from him, and they came after me! And i was watching how they communicated with the uncle, they stick out 2 fingers. So, I ask him, giving him 2 fingers as i wanted two poh piah. Then he said ok! Gosh! i assume he understood what i said earlier. Then i told him where i sat.

And I saw another two customers taking away and mine has not reached my table. Something wrong again! So i went to his stall, and i told him, "uncle, i wait" in mandarin. Then he saw me looking at him, he quickly prepared the poh piah for me. I mean, i was trying to be polite. And finally i was being served!

Crabmeat poh piah - RM4.00

Seriously, i will not order the poh piah anymore, even if it is given to me for free. I tasted NO crab meat lo. The poh piah is really small. I didn't taste anything, only a little bit of sengkuang! Moreover, i don't like how the uncle treats his customer lo(Me!).

After finishing, i "tar pau" some apom balik back. Hehe!

Penang Hokkien Mee @ Burma Road, Penang

Helicopter
Penang people always said come and try their hokkien mee. Guarantee different than KL hokkien mee. So, a friend brought me to this place after happy hours. This place is probably known to be open up to wee hours (as i reached quite late too! :P) He suggested few stalls to try from, like the bak kut teh, grilled fish and etc, but most of all he rekond the penang hokkien mee. I followed him to the stall...

Aiyo..! Prawn mee izzit? As he keeps on saying hokkien mee, hokkien mee... ok la! Penang hokkien mee is KL prawn mee. Pengsan! But penang prawn mee really is different than KL prawn mee. They had herbal egg, siew yoke, pork balls, and foo chuk. I mean you can add the "lui" in KL. It's slightly different style of cooking in penang. Its a good try. They even can replace with cintan mee for you instead of the normal bihun or koay teow. If you were to order the cintan mee it would cost RM4.00.

Penang hokkien mee - RM3.50
I had others too but i was too busy eating my bak kut teh that i didn't take any other pictures. hehe!

Assam Laksa @ Jalan Penang, Penang

While i was enjoying the chendol sitting in this Cafe Joo Hooi, I saw there's a stall with the famous sticker from one of the food show appeared on TV (Ho Chiak). I have always like to watch this show. But since i have been so busy searching for food myself, i hardly watch it anymore. The stall i saw the sticker with is selling assam laksa by both husband and wife.

Hmm!!! I was thinking...why not give a try?

Assam laksa - RM4.00

The assam laksa will be a one time try only. The soup is diluted(as you can see!), the "lui" is so little, no fish in the soup, the noodle is thin and little and the taste so-so only. I really will not try anything recommended by Ho Chiak. And it's expensive for penang standard, RM4.00 a bowl.

Original Stall Signboard

If you were to come to Penang, you have to try the famous penang chendol. The name is also called Penang Road "Famous" Teochew Chendol. This stall is so pack with people standing around the stall enjoying the chendol. They are so famous that their staffs are wearing uniform (a polo-tee with the logo on the back of their shirt). They are so famous that there are competitors selling the same chendol at the same row. Hehe! To differentiate the original and competitor is by this signboard. Another is the bowl, the original has two color bowl, blue and beige whereas the competitor is using orange bowl.

As i was sitting in Cafe Joo Hooi, the lady-boss told me that she will assist me to order. I was surprised that she ordered from the competitor of the chendol for me and most of all charging me more than the original. So, i quickly went out to get the original one.

which is the original?

Famous chendol - RM1.80

Competitor - RM2.30
When i came back with the chendol, immediately the lady boss charge me RM0.50 corkage. If i knew, i would have just stand outside and finish the bowl. Insane! The original one is good, the taste is just nice (not too sweet and thick enough). Whereas the competitor's chendol is so sweet and diluted. So please choose wisely!

Penang Coconut Jelly @ Jalan Dato Kramat, Penang

It was such a hot day. So i decided to try something to quench my thirst and since i was along Jalan Dato Kramat. So far, i had tried jelly, but i have not tried coconut jelly in the coconut. Most of my penang friends, do not know of this place. Surprising!

The shop cater more on take-away, but if u can have it eat-on-the-spot too. :)

Coconut Jelly RM 3.75

Its was so refreshing that i had two coconuts!!! (No la, a friend can't finish it, so i didn't want to go to waste!!) Its a good try. I will come again if i were to be in Penang.
