In penang, some hotels do not cater morning breakfast. Most probably the food around the hotel would taste better. :) Fortunately, my hotel does serve breakfast. I was just lazying on my bed wondering if i could extend my holiday. z z z z....
Ok! I'm hungry for food already. I did had some breakfast from the hotel, as i was thinking, outside would serve better. So i drove out and start my journey of food. I heard about the poh piah crabmeat and wanting to try it. Seriously i lost my way many times. But finally with my wits, i decided to just stop, park and look. And i found the place. This is the hawker stalls located just in front of the residents facing the main road of Jalan Mount Erskine.
Its difficult to find a parking spot but i got a shaded empty parking spot. Heheh!! The first stall i spotted was the "ah pong balik" stall, the customers comes non stop and they are so friendly. Both husband and wife smiling all the way. Then i was thinking lets try their apom balik. They have two type, one is the crispy skin with peanuts and the other is soft skin with banana filling. I bought some to eat while trying others. You can see the peanut filling. yum yum!

Next i saw a stall with words i do not understand, but i saw people around the stall eating porridge. So i ordered one bowl to try, what is so special with the porridge.(i wondered?) Once the porridge came, the taste is just nice. The colour of the porridge is brown amd its not salty. The porridge tasted warm and not too gluey. Nice!

And then the poh piah stall is located at the back. I tried communicating with the uncle, as i told him i wanted 1 poh piah (actually i wanted one plate) He mumbled and pointed at his pot and giving me the sign as if he's not open yet to sell. So, i told him that i will wait. I waited about 15 minutes and thinking he should be ready by now. So i went back to the stall, i saw him wrapping the poh piah. So i told him that i wanted to order. He completely gave me the wave as if he is not interested. I stood there angrily as i wonder how come everybody is allowed to order except me? Something not right! I saw as two of his customers bought from him, and they came after me! And i was watching how they communicated with the uncle, they stick out 2 fingers. So, I ask him, giving him 2 fingers as i wanted two poh piah. Then he said ok! Gosh! i assume he understood what i said earlier. Then i told him where i sat.
And I saw another two customers taking away and mine has not reached my table. Something wrong again! So i went to his stall, and i told him, "uncle, i wait" in mandarin. Then he saw me looking at him, he quickly prepared the poh piah for me. I mean, i was trying to be polite. And finally i was being served!

Seriously, i will not order the poh piah anymore, even if it is given to me for free. I tasted NO crab meat lo. The poh piah is really small. I didn't taste anything, only a little bit of sengkuang! Moreover, i don't like how the uncle treats his customer lo(Me!).
After finishing, i "tar pau" some apom balik back. Hehe!

Hey that's a pretty disconcerting experience with the uncle! Sorry to hear that, I would have walked away lol. Good thing you persevered - the poh piah looks good. Thanks for the great photos and for sharing this. It's great for home sick Malaysians like me here in Australia :)
